CITY WV GAY 1.jpg
Will Daly <cq>, 19 and from Somers, CT, stands in front of Residence Hall A, which used to be where his dorm was, on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at Stetson University in DeLand. Daly's dorm was the window in the top left. In two weeks, Stetson U. is hosting a lecture by Judy Shepard, mother of a college student who was murdered in a highly publicized hate crime in Wyoming 10 years ago. Shepard's message is one of tolerance and understanding of gay people, and the driving force behind her appearance is Will Daly. On November 11, 2007, someone carved the word "FAGS" on Daly's dorm room door. Later, Will's roommate, who is also openly gay, saw that someone had written in permanent marker on the laundry room wall "Death to fags." Daly has decided to leave the university and attend the Art Institute of New York City where he is taking culinary arts on his way to being a chef. (Daytona Beach News-Journal, Chad Pilster)
