Firefighters work on battling a blaze after a train derailment that occurred at approximately 1:25 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, near Eighth and Vine St. in Hays, Kansas. A westbound freight train struck a standing train. Three locomotives and 79 cars were part of the train, which was carrying low-grade ethanol and general freight that also included steel, wheat, beer and particle board. Of the three locomotives, the fuel for two of them was on fire. There was a large amount of diesel due to the train stopping at Salina for fuel, and flames reached up to 40 feet into the air at the height of the fire early Tuesday morning.
